Our Story

Genoese Foods was established in 1993 in Levin, New Zealand. We make a range of authentic pesto and dips for the Home, for the Chef and for Manufacturers and are the No. 1 Retail brand in New Zealand.

Genoese is not just any pesto, it is crafted the traditional way, starting with flavoursome basil field grown on our outdoor Fijian farm which is nurtured from seed. The basil is hand-picked to ensure only the best fresh basil leaves are gathered for our special pesto recipe.

We fly the basil to New Zealand and blend it in small batches with carefully selected ingredients, creating the ultimate tasting basil pesto – no compromise. Throughout the journey from the farm to the factory and to the customer (wherever in the world that may be) we manage and monitor temperature to ensure we retain the freshness and flavour that epitomises Genoese. Our pesto is available through retail stores for the Home, through Distributors for Chefs and Hospitality customers. We custom design and produce products for food manufacturers wanting to use pesto as an ingredient and we contract Manufacture.

We have just launched our new look Genoese logo and packaging to make it easier for you to find the Genoese product that’s right for you. Genoese wants to make good food easy and with this in mind, has just launched three new products so look out for the new Fresh Basil Chunky Pesto (with extra chunky cashews for a lavish bite), Fresh Basil Pesto Drizzle (blended to a finer texture to drizzle over salads, veges or meat dishes) and Sundried Tomato Pesto & Cashew Chunky Dip (great for entertaining).
